RuleCost Editorial Team
The team behind RuleCost's calculators, and how a rule change turns into a page you can check yourself.
Updated 17 Sept 2026
Every calculator on RuleCost is written under this byline rather than a single reporter’s name, because the work behind each one is the same regardless of who does it: find the rule, read the primary source, build the calculator, and have someone else check it before it goes live.
What “reviewed by RuleCost Editorial Team” means
- The figures come from the primary source listed on that tool’s page — the statute, the IRS Revenue Procedure, the CMS bulletin, the regulation — not from a news summary of it.
- Before publishing, the calculation is checked against a worked example from that same source, by someone other than whoever built it.
- The page states the tax year or rule version it covers, and the date the figures were last confirmed.
See the editorial policy for the full process, and the methodology page for what every calculator’s result does and doesn’t assume.
